From One Season to Another

By: Ariane Bonhomme

As many of you are fine tuning your winter preparation to get ready for the start of the 2017 racing season, I am going to talk to you about my 2016-2017 season ending this week.

Combining track and road racing can be rather challenging, but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. It takes a good amount of planning, honesty (to yourself and your coaches) and guts.

The 2016-2017 track season has been very successful for myself and Cyclery teammate and forever best friend Kinley Gibson. Between the two of us, the winter has brought us a national individual pursuit champion title, a Pan-American team pursuit champion title (where we were on the same team), a Pan-American points race bronze medal, a World Cup team pursuit bronze medal (where we were again on the same team) and the chance to participate to the World Championships preparation camp.

We can say that it has been a very successful winter for the two of us, but the reality now is that we are tired, physically and mentally. We haven’t stop chasing big goals since early September 2016, right around when the road season ends and most of you are going on vacation for a couple weeks.

We are both coming back home on Wednesday as the women’s team pursuit will be flying to Hong Kong for the track World Championships, ready to chase down some rainbows. We will be cheering on them from the other side of the world!

It is now time for us to take our short off-season, recharge our batteries, set some new goals and shift our focus on the road, starting with Speedweek at the end of the month. I can’t wait to race with my Cyclery-4iiii teammates this summer! Bring it on!

See you on the road soon (just give us a good 10 days off before!)
