This past weekend Cyclery Racing had our first team camp of the New Year! I drove up to Ottawa on Friday, and was promptly reminded that it is actually winter (I’ve been lucky enough to do some outdoor riding over the last few weeks since the weather has been mild in the Greater Toronto Area). Despite forgetting my winter boots, the weekend went smoothly and I was very excited to spend time getting to know my new teammates.
We did a variety of training throughout the weekend, including three indoor spin workouts at Cyclelogik – thank you to the Ride with Rendall crew for having us join their session on Friday evening! Off the bike, Ariane and I did a gym workout as the other girls hit the trails in beautiful Gatineau Park for some skate skiing. Rumour has it that Emily’s secret to getting an extra tough workout is to ski without wax ;). On Sunday morning we ventured to the ByWard Market for yoga at the Upward Dog Yoga Centre. After some much needed stretching, we visited Origin Trade Inc. to caffeinate and refuel.
Although the entire team wasn’t able to make it to Ottawa for the weekend, we did our best to connect virtually over Skype to keep everyone in the loop about plans for the upcoming season. We spoke about new and exciting sponsorships, baseline concussion testing, and a team project (this is currently in progress – stay tuned!). Camden, coach Jenny’s 3-year-old son, promoted team solidarity by providing everyone with matching tattoos (temporary, emoji tattoos to be exact). I can’t wait to meet everyone in March when we head to South Carolina for our training camp. Until then, I plan to ride laps around the velodrome in Milton with the NextGen Women’s Track Endurance crew. It’s an exciting time, as Kinley and Ariane are gearing up for their first UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali, Columbia!
