Foreward: After an incredibly challenging Christmas season for the team, where we lost team alumni Ellen Watters after she was hit by a car, Ariane was given the unenviable job of starting our team weekly blog series. We will dearly miss Ellen as she was a bright light in our lives both on and off the bike. Be careful on the roads.

Happy New Year everyone!
The first week of the year has already had its ups and downs for the team. We were all reunited on New Year’s Day at Chris and Jenny’s place to attend the Celebration of Life of our wonderful Ellen. Even if it was a difficult and emotional day, it was amazing to see the number of people that showed up, each and everyone of them touched by Ellen in one way or another in their life. Emily did an amazing job putting this all together very quickly. It perfectly reflected our girl. It was at one of her favourite places, The Cyclery, surrounded by people she loves, donuts, and beer.
Even if we were reunited for a sad event, we were all so thrilled to see each other in Ottawa on New Year’s Day. We went for a hike in the woods of the Gatineau Park and then had a wonderful dinner with wonderful teammates.
Ellen was more than a teammate for us, she was a member of our family. It has been very difficult these past couple of weeks and I still can’t even put into words how I feel about it. We will remember her by bringing her aggressive style of racing at every race we enter, her work ethic everywhere we go and her positive attitude on and off the bike.
She will be dearly missed, but we will never forget her.
Taking another turn, Kinley and I have been in Milton with the National Track team since the beginning of the year, getting ready for some big goals to come. Keep following for more details to come!
Until next week, happy cycling!
