This past weekend the girls (Emily, Amelie, Katherine and Ellen) headed down to Woodstock, NY for the Women’s Woodstock Cycling Gran Prix. A women’s only race put on by fellow Canadian and women’s cycling enthusiast Martin Ernst Bruhn. As a women’s development team this is a race we really wanted to support to help grow the sport. We were lucky enough to have host housing for the Friday night and raced Saturday morning. After a neutral start the race was on and we made sure to make the race aggressive. Ellen was able to bridge up to the Catherine Dessureault (SAS-Mazda) and stick with the group to finish third. Katherine rode great with the elites and took home the U19 jersey. Emily having put in some good digs off the start, finished with a group and took that sprint. Amelie unfortunately was caught up in a crash and did not finish.
However, Amelie was back on her feet and was a great sideline coach the next day in La Presentation, QC. for the crit. The girls again made it very aggressive with Ellen making the early break and staying away with two others to finish second. Emily and Katherine worked over the pack with consistent attacks and counter-attacks. Emily was finally able to get away and out in a solid TT effort to finished fourth. Katherine again took the U19 race, having stayed with the elite field the entire time. All in all it was a very successful weekend!
Next up: Annie and Tara will be representing Canada at the Amgen Tour of California; Ellen will be taking on the Granby TT; and Katherine and Emily will be doing some TT work down in Milton with Team Ontario!
