Special-edition jersey to raise funds for Jenny Trew

The special-edition JET jersey.

For the last two seasons Stevens Racing p/b the Cyclery has been lucky enough to have Jenny Trew at the helm as the Director Sportif.  Jenny’s experience has combined with the phenomenal level of support that the team already enjoyed to help the team evolve into one of the best development programs in the country.

Jenny brings more than 15 years of race experience to the team, from early success as a junior national champion, to racing on the U.S. pro circuit and in Europe.  Some of Jenny’s successes include winning the final stage at the UCI Tour of PEI and a podium performance at the Tour of Somerville – the longest-running bicycle race in North America.

Sadly Jenny’s own career ended two years ago when she suffered a serious concussion that put an end to her own sporting ambitions.  In the time since then she has transitioned into coaching and management activities — becoming involved not just with Stevens but also with the Ottawa Bicycle Club Junior Program, and the Ontario and National junior teams.

Recognizing that the time and effort she has put into these pursuits is more often than not on an entirely volunteer basis, the Ottawa-based Echelon Project has decided to step up and help support her endeavours.

We would ask that you consider supporting this fundraiser by buying a JET jersey, as we earnestly believe that juniors and up-and-coming talent in the Ottawa area are lucky to benefit from Jenny’s involvement.

About the Echelon Project:

The Echelon Project is a project committed to contributing to the competitive cycling scene in Ottawa and beyond. Our club, The West of Quebec Wheelers, is not in a position to support a development team for an entire season.

Instead, through the Echelon Project, we support specific events or individuals that help provide opportunities for developing riders to venture into the world of competition cycling.

Each year is a new year. We do what we can, with what we have but more importantly we do it.

Past projects include; the Biker Banquet, U23 team to races in Canada and the US, 2-time participation in the Tour of Martinique, youth rides to Montreal, introductions to velodromes in Bromont and London, provide support to riders going to Nationals and Worlds, use old and new connections to set up riders in Nederlands and Belgium.

In 2013, one of our goals is to help support and encourage coach Jenny Trew. Jenny is a former elite track and road racer, who because of serious injuries sustained in competition, has had to step away from pursuing her dreams as a bike racer. Luckily for the sport of cycling, she has turned her focus to coaching and is now building her skills and credentials as a development coach. Too often retired athletes leave the sport and with them goes their energy and expertise. Canadian cycling and in particular the young riders in the Ottawa area are lucky to have Jenny pouring her passion into the sport.

In support of her initiatives with an area women’s team, and as an apprenticing National level coach, the Echelon Project has partnered with Jenny in promoting a special 2013 edition Jenny Jersey designed by Jenny.

All proceeds from the sale of these 50 special edition jerseys will go directly to Jenny and her coaching efforts this year.

pNow is the time to show your support and pre-order a jersey. Jerseys are $100 (add $10 for shipping if required). Please send your order requests to jetrew@gmail.com.
